Gérard Alary's art is an art of celebration, powerful and triumphant. Used to the challenge of vast religious spaces ( La Vieille Charité in Marseille, La Salpétrière in Paris, Les Célestins in Avignon), the artist presents in the Benedictine's dormitory, four monumental canvases embedded in a new scenography enhancing the communication between the the works and the space. Entitled « Les Anonymes » (The Anonymous), the paintings welcome the visitors like a big open book where the painting gesture inscribe Vanitas which origin refers to universal culture : one can think of the Haitian "Saint-Soleil", of rituals that question death, of the western relics. Painting, theatricality, magic thought are part of the multi-faceted painting of Gérard Alary."
