Philippe Aïni, a most particular artist, explores the meaning of life in an overwhelming use of color and form. In a chaotic, pictorial big bang, he reveals the fusion of matter and flesh in an exuberant, disorderly and feverish bacchanal.


Philippe Aïni : a few landmarks

Philippe Aïni has been exhibiting since 1980, gaining every year a well deserved recognition. In 2002, the FRAC Aquitaine bought one of his works, "two characters". He is a regularly scheduled artist with Mrs Polad Hardouin and has attended numerous international art shows such as the Outsider Art Fair, New York, the Miami Art Fair and the Raw Arts Festival, London.

Always in full filling, Aïni, and under the feverish influence of the big matrix, the midwife of all the worlds. So appears his hard painting of the origins, between sky and mud. Everything comes from the immense centre of life, dark block, atrocious and sublime, couloured with tortured soil and spunk, where births extract themselves. Then, prodigious exuberant, the heterogeneous Aïni extracts from the greyness. There was a body which protected, the big mother in vault, in roof, in shelter-under-flesh, and which leaves bare the bodies that venture outside. His creation is tearing apart, when the islands want to get out into the open sea, and all orifices become red marks. It is necessary to pay the price of the blood, and the shouts of the art, to live out of peace, be fragile there, and fragility inexcess. The animism of Aïni, to the lost sources, between trance and mockery, is striking and grotesque, sacrificial, ironic and brilliant. The aïnien body eliminates some flaccid useless flesh, engorged damaged inside, hurtled into taking on the sky. In this painting of embrace always in projection, Aïni's unstoppable driving force, binds himself to the archaic roots of the world, but culture is invain when it is about reaching with stretched bodies all the ends of the universe. And like vain tentacles, these arms so fine, bony members eager for life, embrace the absolute emptiness which separates bodies. Inaccessible are the stairs to infinity. With Aïni, the finite suffers, and his pilgrim hilarity aggravates the creation. His art is more lively than distress, and if it crucifies tenderness, its tremendous creativity awakens the chaos which is held in its hand. The chromatic space is tightened, carnal knots fit in the deep red, a strange substance in an austere puddle, constitutes an improbable ground. Barbaric sun, the uncountable body, in cruel burst, carries the weight of our lives.
