Elizabeth Garouste

Lives and works in Paris.

 

 

Elizabeth Garouste is primarily a furniture designer.  She has conceived many interiors for private and public spaces, in France and worldwide. She has also designed industrial products.  After having studied at the Ecole Camondo in Paris, she starts decorating with Gérard Garouste, the Palace’s restaurant, «le Privilège», one of the most famous nigthclubs in the capital at the time. She also makes the theater sets for a play staged by Jean-Michel Ribes at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. 

First exhibition in 1981, at Jansen, Paris. Many others will follow : at the gallery "En Attendant les Barbares" (Paris), Twentieth Century (New York), at the Venice Biennale, the Düsseldorf Museum, gallery Shiseido in Tokyo, gallery Néotu in Paris and New York, David Gill (London), gallery Avant-Scène and Kréo (Paris)...


Elizabeth Garouste makes in 1987 the interior decoration of all the lounges, shops and graphic design of the Haute Couture company Christian Lacroix. She also creates the furniture for the private apartments of the Princess Von Thurn und Taxis at the castle of Regensburg. 

Works by Elizabeth Garouste have been shown in many group and solo exhibitions in french museums and abroad, for instance at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. In 1991, she is awarded «Creator of the year» at the furniture fair. In 1994, she designs a  footbridge for the town of Quimper, France, a tribute to Max Jacob. That same year, she designs a cosmetic line for Nina Ricci : the perfumes «Deci-Delà» and «Les Belles».  She is awarded the packaging Oscar in 1992 for "le teint de Nina Ricci". She designs the new Ricard jugs and ashtrays in 1995, and the first two trolley lines for the town of Montpellier in 2000 and 2006 as well as the urban furniture linked to it. In 2009 she designs the furniture for the Christian Louboutin shops in Paris (rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau and rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré) and Moscow.

Elizabeth Garouste makes objects, jewels and furniture as unique piece or in limited edition, in various materials like bronze, iron, wood, glass, ceramics...They are exhibited at the galleries Avant-scène, En attendant les Barbares, Granville Gallery, Mouvement Moderne or Naïla de Monbrison and Ralph Pucci New York.
