Christophe Boursault "Facettes Façonnent Factice"

From 09 September to 09 October 2010

Christophe Boursault is not yet 35.
Born in Paris, he begins his studies at the Beaux-Arts in Nice in 1998, then moves to Marseille in 2004. He says that he loves the noise and energy of this city, which help him work.
From the very beginning, Boursault shows a preference for painting. Torn between abstraction and figuration, he openly acknowledges the influence of Baselitz and Cobra.
The composition of his paintings evokes that of diverted comic strips, the references to Basquiat pay a tribute to New York’s Nemo, and the words of this graphic poet are clearly in the wake of Macréau. The whole production would suggest a feeling of dispersion, were it not linked by the rhythm of colour, which gives meaning to the canvas. A gesture of green or red, and the figure emerges!

«It is a very intuitive painting. To catch the idea that is gradually taking shape in my mind, I need to be quick, and therefore to simplify. I try to create a language filled with fractures and different intentions which ultimately form a plausible whole. Sometimes there is an appealing, lyrical side; sometimes the side is grotesque, regressive, destructive, dirty and heavy...» Christophe Boursault
