Christine Sefolosha "Vaisseaux fantômes"

From 18 November 2010 to 22 January 2011

After living in South Africa, Christine Sefolosha came back an artist, strongly influenced by ancient techniques and a taste for magic. In recent years, her work evolved from the evocation of a parietal world to the legends of her childhood, blending the tales of her German grandmother and the dreamlike, mythical universe of Switzerland. These themes were at the core of a large monographic exhibition organized by the gallery two years ago.
This year, Christine Sefolosha returns to the themes of boats and vessels with a perfected and improved monotyping technique. This time, the equipment is carefully designed and the ship, while remaining a ghostly apparition, is also a fully detailed means of transportation. The line, which previously played on dripping and randomness, is now disciplined by the constraints of print. As a consequence, the line becomes sharp and accurate.
